Galentine’s Day-Maker Style

Galentine’s Day-Maker Style

It’s nearly Galentine’s Day!!

What is Galentine’s Day, you might ask???

Oh, my wild majestic unicorn,

“Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home and come to just kick it, breakfast style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus, frittatas!” -Leslie Knope

Galentine’s Day is an unofficial holiday (From the TV show Parks and Rec) to celebrate the love we have for the bold, fearless and strong women in our lives. That “beautiful, powerful, talented, brilliant, powerful musk ox” who empowers us, who supports and encourages us, the one(s) we can always count on for a good laugh OR a good cry.

We might not be able to leave home and kick it breakfast style this year, so here are some other ways to celebrate with your most “poetic and noble land mermaids”:

    • Hold a Virtual Sew-In.

      •  Maybe you can’t get together in person due to Covid or maybe your favorite gal(s) lives far away, but that doesn’t mean you can’t sew or craft together anymore! Schedule a time that you both have available, grab some snacks, a glass of wine and your sewing supplies and pull your fave gal or group of gals up on FaceTime or Skype for a live sew-together sesh. Its so good to catch up while enjoying your favorite hobby and even better to have a live support system while you re-try that scant 1/4” seam for the 4th time.
      • Hold a Mug Rug Mini Swap

        •  Share your love of sewing and hot beverages by holding a Mug Rug Mini Swap with your favorite Galentine or group of “beautiful Heart made out of red and pink fabricrule-breaking moths.”. Decide on a size (anywhere from 4”x7” to 8”x10” is perfect for a quick mug rug), make two pieces: one for you to keep for your top and one to swap with your friend for the bottom. Exchange your pieces, then use your top piece,
bottom piece, layer, quilt and bind. VOILA! A handy new mug rug to remind you of your bestie.
      • Learn a New Skill Together

        • Have you both been wanting to learn English Paper Piecing or String Quilting but haven’t had the time? There’s no better time than now! So, grab your scraps and a few EPP supplies and support each other through your new adventure!

          • Don’t forget to take care of your #1 gal: YOU.

            • Self care is more important than ever, and you are worthy and deserving so treat yo’ self to something extra, take a bubble bath or just cuddle up for a nap with your dog. Whatever you do that reminds you that you are a “Goddess, a glorious female warrior.”

A fun way to celebrate Galentines Day during this time is to pickup the phone and call a gal friend and share with them what they mean to you.

Celebrate gal pals by sending invites to a zoom party!
